MP3Man

  Install MP3Man driver under W2000/XP
Use Rio and printer with NT without booting
Use Rio and printer with W2000

Install MP3Man driver under W2000/XP    ^

  • Install MP3Man
  • Disable desired LPT Port (LPT1 in this example)
Start Computer Management with MyComputer - Manage
Look for Device Manager / Ports / ECP Printer Port (LPT1)
Disable this port under Properties / Device Usage

  • Control if the driver is really stopped
Start System Information by Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Information
Look for Software Environment / Drivers / parport, the State have to be Stopped

  • Install the driver for MP3Man
If the port address of your parallel port is not 0x378 please edit INRIOIO.BAT
--> the port address will be found in BIOS of your PC, the address is changeable, very seldom it's 0x278
To copy the driver for MP3Man start INRIOIO.BAT from the path where MP3Man is installed
The driver RIOIO.SYS should be found now in the path Drive:\[W2000-Path]\system32\drivers
Start ADDREG.EXE form the path where MP3Man is installed
    Restart W2000

  • Control if the driver is started now
Start System Information by Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Information
Look for Software Environment / Drivers / rioio, the State have to be Running

  • Take a look to your settings of the parallel port.
If the Rio-Driver shares the interrupt with another device it may not work properly (you will get no
    connection to the player).

For the case your Conflicting device list looks like in the picture above you should try to fix the
problem. Most time you have to 'play' a little bit with your PnP-Settings in BIOS to move the
interrupt of the other device to another place.
  • Connect your Rio player to the printer port
  • Start MP3Man
  • Enjoy MP3Man under W2000

  • Use Rio and printer with NT without booting    ^

  • open Start-Setting-Control Panel-Device
  • set the Startup Type for Parallel, Parport and RioIO to Manual
  • Now you can start and stop the driver whenever you want, but please make sure you do not start all drivers at the same time. In this way it is not necessary to start NT again.

Use Rio and printer with W2000    ^

  • open MyComputer-Manage-Device Manager-Ports-ECP Printer Port (LPT1)
  • enable this port under Properties/Device Usage
  • boot your PC
  • You can switch between printer and Rio by disabling/enabling the LPT-Port and booting.
